The K-16 is a DOD Oil Free Crosscut Paper Shredder
ideal for DOD and Government Top Secret Classified Shredding. The K-16
DOES NOT REQUIRE OIL. It has been tested and evaluated by National
Security Agency / Central Security Service without oil and meets the requirements set by the NSA/CSS for the destruction of paper. NSA/CSS performance testing has evaluated the K-16
ability to reduce paper documents to shards measuring 1 millimeter by 5 millimeter,
or less. NSA/CSS testing protocol includes the timed
destruction of conventional office copy paper (letter size, 20-lb weight,
uncoated) and has classified the K-16 as High Volume at Greater
than 10 Reams per Hour. It is also one of the most “Environmentally
Friendly” shredders available. Oil Free use is “Greener” and cleaner
and can result in long term Cost Savings as well. The K-16 is
designed with a Low Energy System for zero power consumption in the
Stand-by mode. Also built for high performance, the K-16 is equipped
with a 24-Hour Continuous Duty Motor for long shredding operations
without the timed cool-down periods typical of most shredders on the market.
Carbon
Hardened Steel Gears and a Heavy-Duty Chain make for an All-Metal
Drive System with no internal nylon or plastic gears as commonly found in
lesser shredders. The K-16 also features a Full 16-inch Feed
Opening and a specially designed cutting head based on Floating Head
Technology. Floating Head Cutters are manufactured from very high
Carbon-Grade Spring Steel produced and hardened to be more durable and wear
resistant than most shredders that use solid block cutting heads. This
specialized manufacturing process results in cutters with the highest degree of
hardness and with no brittleness. The harder steel of the floating head allows
the K-16 to operate with minimal wear regardless of lubrication. A
floating system cutting head is also more efficient at removing the cut paper
and dust during rotation of the blades. The softer steel of the more common
“solid shaft” shredders needs large amounts of lubrication to maintain wear at
a low level. The floating head system of the K-16 is also easier to
repair in the event of accidental damage to the cutting knives. Individual
single cutting blades can be replaced as opposed to a complete cutting head
replacement as would be required in a solid shaft shredder.
